Ryan Lee Blu-Ray Commentary

I mostly despise the political propaganda dripping from all the media I consume, so I was a bit hesitant to run with an NSA spying bit.  Ultimately, the joke is really about Doctor Odd’s wardrobe, so that’s how I justify it to myself.  I guess everything I write with Capt Sensitivity is a “message strip” as well, so maybe I just can’t help myself.

I guess the pact I’ll make is that social commentary is an important place to visit, but I’m not planning on Superpub living there.  Deal?

In the meantime, I’m really enjoying Mike’s experimentation with color.  Most of the comics I read now seem to be in a contest to see who can produce the muddiest palate possible.  Blechh.  I like the neon-purple hues of Doc Odd’s portal a lot, complete with Kirby Krackle!

I also requested that Dr. Odd be way too keyed up when he fires out of the portal, and man did Mike deliver on that!

Monster Mike Blu-Ray Commentary

I’ve been re-watching all 11 seasons of Cheers on Netflix lately and I’ve come to the conclusion that we have several Cliff Claven’s in Superpub. Dr. Odd is definitely one of them.

In this strip, we see Dr. Odd graduate from mere parlour tricks to actual magic/dimension hopping. It makes him a bit more serious, but I think the ‘devil horns’ Ryan called for in the script bring it back down to a laughable level.

As far as the colours, I’m still working on it and I find myself making hard choices every time. I still don’t consider myself a colourist, I’m just looking to make it serviceable. I hope that I am.
