Ryan Lee Blu-Ray Commentary

This is a real thing over at DC now.  Superman has a “new” power in which he shoots a rainbow of color out any available orifice, at which point he enters a fatigued refractory period.  Just chew on the metaphorical ramifications of that, if you dare.

It is an awful lot like the Human Torch’s nova ability, and of course in Superpub our Torch has undergone a cinematic transformation into Jun Tsunami.  So, we’re a bit up our own arse on continuity already, and I’m starting to understand why the Big 2 have issues keeping this stuff straight and steered out of confusion.

The important thing is that Mike put those delicious little Kirbyesque flame lines on Jun!

Monster Mike Blu-Ray Commentary

This is another example of Ryan being right on time and me being late to the game. I’m sitting on a mountain of awesome scripts and, for the most part, I’m trying to tackle them in the order they came in. That’s what lead to the late Daredevil strip and to this one, which Ryan wrote and sent to me the same day that news broke of Superman’s new power.

This, to my memory, also marks the first time we see someone use their powers in Superpub. Correct me if Im wrong.
Of course, I had to use the classic Human Torch flame effect. As cool as it is seeing the new ways people come up with rendering ol’ Johnny Storm in the comics these days, I will always be a bigger fan of the classic look.
